Social activities
Social and recreation supports are key to the NDIS achieving its objective to support people with a disability to achieve independence, social and economic participation. Social and recreation activities are part of everyday life. There are lots of activities this category can fund, so long as they are considered to be reasonable and necessary and relate to your NDIS goals.These are activities everybody does for fun and can help with your health and general well being. They can also help you to meet new people and improve your people skills. When we talk about support for social and recreation activity funded under the NDIS, we mean the extra help you need to take part in these activities because of your disability,

Social and recreation activities can include things like:

  • visiting your friends and family
  • active hobbies, such as bike riding, skiing or kayaking
  • playing sport, such as tennis, surfing, basketball, dirt bike riding
  • going out, for instance to the movies or a concert
  • going places for fun, such as shopping or visiting a museum
  • relaxing, like meditation or yoga
  • learning new skills, like dance, art classes, quilting, sailing.
We offer
Dirt Bike riding class
The NDIS Dirt bike coaching programs cater for beginner riders. Dirt bikes and helmets are supplied.Our aim to increase participant’s social interaction and community participation by providing a dirt bike riding course to improve physical fitness, improve self belief, self esteem and cognitive development.

Our slogan is “Moto 4 Health”, embracing the physical and psychologically benefits of dirt bike riding for improved fitness & health.

Sailing
Careco Disability Support offers a fun, safe and welcoming environment where people with disability are accepted and encouraged to participate in, and enjoy the sport of sailing, and other on-water activities. Our aim to increase participant’s social interaction and community participation.All safety and boating equipment is supplied.

Course available:

3 hr Private Lessons on a weekday.

  • Tackers Dinghy boat – 7-12 years old / 1-2 people per tackers boat, Instructor in Rhib
  • Quest Dingy boat – 12 years to adult / 2-3 people plus instructor in Quest boat
  • Elliot 6 Keelboat – 16 years to adult / 2-3 people plus instructor in Keelboat
3hr Sail and Play on a weekday
This is more of an experience rather than a lesson – (one activity per 3 hrs session). This option would include activities such as:
  • Sailing on any of the above boats (numbers as above)
  • Stand up paddle boarding (up to 6 people)
  • Rhib rides (up to 6 people)
Horse Riding
Facilitated occupational therapy
Not all children work well indoors, and some of us just love horses. Our horse riding programs are Facilitated Occupational Therapy which can bring fun and learning together. While still remaining true to Occupational Therapy structures and practices, we facilitate learning journeys with our beautiful horses.
What can we work on?
If there is something you need or want to do, OT’s help you work out the best way you can achieve these goals.For Equine Facilitated Therapy, we typically work on areas such as;

  • Emotional self regulation
  • Social Skills
  • Executive functioning
  • Upper limb co-ordination (bi-manual skills)
  • Core strength
  • Anxiety
When combined, the development of these skills can have a positive impact on ones ability to perform their activities of daily living.
Day trips
Our day trips can be one on one or in small groups with people of similar interests.Our day trips provide a sense of independence, can improve mental health, and with social and community participation can help participants gain new friends and feel a greater sense of belonging with their local community. All whilst focusing on meeting the specific needs of the participant and their NDIS plan outcomes.

NDIS funded activities include:

  • Swimming and aquatic aerobics
  • Cooking and baking (we can even get a teacher to come to you at home or organise a small group to learn together)
  • Dancing, singing and drama
  • Painting, colouring or sculpting (can arrange a teacher at home too)
  • Other arts and crafts
  • Exercise and gym workouts
  • Yoga and meditation
  • Gardening
  • Going to the local library and improving your reading skills
  • Sport activities
  • Bushwalking and horse riding
  • Barbecues and picnics
  • Bowling
  • Computers and games
  • Beauty related activities, including spa, massage and pedicures
  • Going to the movies or theatre
  • Music and other creative outlets
  • Attending local community events, like markets and fairs
  • Engaging with local community organisations
  • Literacy and numeracy
  • Reading and sensory
  • And more…
We also do custom activities and special occasions:
  • Outings to theme parks, zoos and museums
  • Music concert or other special event
  • Fishing trips, camps and other adventures
  • Holidays and getaways
  • And more…
